The Ozinefest: Anime Figure Special, the year-ender convention organized by Otakuzine Anime Magazine staff and crew, was held this 28th and 29th December, 2011 at Megatrade Hall 1, SM Megamall Bldg. B, Ortigas Center Pasig. With tagline “Anime Figure Special”, this “Ozine fest” featured activities dedicated for anime toys/figurines enthusiasts and collectors.

Among the major highlights in day one were the “Karaoke Singing Contest”, “Battle of the Bands – Acoustic Night” and the toy auction.  Let us not forget the cosplay queen, Alodia Goseingfiao, as she guested in the Maid Cafe booth. There were no cosplay competition held in day one, even the group cosplay competition that usual conventions have, but the event still swarmed with cosplayers.

The largest area of the venue was dedicated to figurine enthusiast and one of the co-presenters of the event, Team Onii-chan. They showcased many figurines from different anime series in the booth –  One Piece, K-ON!, Fate Stay Night, Bakemonogatari, Madoka Magica, Vocaloid, and many more.

There was also a Gundam display booth organized by Gundam Philippines, but not as large with Team Onii-chan. Con-goers can participate in the Gundam Building Contest and get a free Gundam model in the process. They were also holding a seminar about Gundam-building in day one. Beside the anime figure booth was the artist booth.

The event began with the “Karaoke Contest”. Lot of great singers participated especially in the likes of former champions Denggoy “Sharivan Spark” Isidoro and Kitty, unfortunately, they didn’t win this time. It was really a hard day for the judges

At 4 o’ clock in the afternoon, Alodia Gosiengfiao arrived at Megatrade 1 and that’s when the crowd beside the Maid Cafe swells to the point that no one can  pass through to that area. The Maid Cafe / Host Club booth was right beside the stage where the “Battle of the Bands – Acoustic Night” was on-going.

At random times on the stage, toy auctions were held. Items – from anime figures, stuff toys, photo book, manga book and even a Black Rock Shooter weapon were auction with starting bids from as low as piso to as high as Php 5,000. Definitely, people started to look deeper to their pockets just to buy those items.

Here are some of the photos I took during day 1 of the event. I took advantage of having a high-end camera this time.
