Another year had passed by and once again, the 11th Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles 2012 had  proven that it is the one of the largest toy conventions in Southeast Asia.

The 11th Philippine TOYCON 2012 was organized by Collectibles Unlimited, Inc and it was held last June 15, 16 and 17 at Megatrade Halls 1,2,3 and Function Room B, SM Megamall Bldg B, Mandaluyong City.

This year TOYCON featured a bigger toy gallery which were located at Megatrade Hall Function Rm B and 180 booths and merchant shops that cater comics, anime, toys, action figures, collectible items and various merchandise.

Among the day 2 highlights were the guesting of Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo in costume and Cosplay Queen Alodia Gosiengfiao with sister Ashley. Alodia Gosiengfiao has always been invited to judge the event’s cosplay competition since 2008. Alodia is also a cast member of comedy film Kimmy Dora and The Temple of Kiyeme starring Eugene Domingo.

One of innovations of this year’s event is the Cosplay Universe which is situated at Megatrade Hall 3. The hall featured various interactive photo booths for cosplayers and even meet and greet Alodia.

A total of 149 cosplayers, categorized in 6 mainly TV/Movie, Toy, Gaming, Comic and the biggest group, Anime, competed on stage vying for Php 3,000 worth of gift certificates and premium item from TOYCON sponsors.

Here are the winners of the Cosplay Universe – Individual Competition.

Anime Category – David D’ Angelo as Master Pogi
TV/Movie Category – Don Robert as General Grievious
Toy Category – RB Cheng as Geno Breaker
Gaming Category – Krizdel Ingreso as Demon Hunter
Comic Category – Jerry Borbe as Iron Patriot
Chibi Category – Misaki Ashley as Lady Sylvania

Cosplayer Jaycell Vasquez who cosplayed Melfi from MMO Third Person Shooter Game, Cosmic Break was given a special award by AMPED. She was given Php 5,000 cash and a contract for ABS-CBN Multimedia.

It was a risky move for the organizers to group the cosplay competition participants by category as it will be needing more effort for both the judges and the cosplayers to organize the list and themselves. However, for the overall catwalk, the organizers managed to pull it off.

Alodia and Ashley booth, as usual was one of the busiest booth in the event as long line of fans gathered for autograph signing and picture taking with their idols.

With more and less 10 thousand people as announced, attended the event and the sardine-like atmosphere inside the venue, TOYCON 2012 was a great improvement against last year’s TOYCON. This year’s convention was more organized despite the “big” celebrities attended the event.

To the organizers of TOYCON 2012, kudos!
