Last March 9 and 10, Cherry Credits, the company that brought Eyedentity’s popular free-to-play fantasy MMORPG Dragon Nest (DN) to Southeast Asia, held its first Cherry Convention here in the Philippines.
The tw0-day game convention held at SM Megamall’s Megatrade 1 and 2 featured a lot of activities for all game enthusiasts such as online PVP tournaments, speed matches parties and in-game item auctions. The organizers even setup over 200 PCs and laptops filling up the two halls just for free play.
Aside from the game activities, the event also highlighted cosplay as it hosted the Cosplay Concerto on one side of the Megatrade hall. Day one of the competition was open to to all cosplayers and it was divided as normal and mecha categories.
Some well-known cosplayers such as chibi cosplayer Ashley Misaki, the War Machine Christian Umali and Don Robert Torio known for his Iron Man costumes participated and afterwards won the competition.
Don Robert took home the first prize in the normal category while Umali in the mecha category.
In day two, mecha cosplayer RB Cheng took the grand prize of Php35,000 as he won Champion in Cosplay Concerto Dragon Nest Category. He was cosplaying one of DN’s boss monster Gigantes Maha in the contest.

Another highlight of the Cherry Con was the Alodia’s Birthday Bash segment where Philippine’s cosplay queen along with her fans celebrated her birthday in the event. She dressed as Dragon Nest’s Event Planner Irine.
Alodia Gosiengfiao also made a preview of the music video of her upcoming album with idol group Superdolls. Album will be released on April 1 in Japan. Here is a preview caught on cam.
Alodia, GM Adriano and Addison Kang also performed their own version of the Harlem dance.

GM Adriano Wong, being a ex-campus superstar according to his Facebook page mesmerized the audience with his talent in singing. He sang songs “We will Rock You” by Queen and “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi.
DN Producer Addison Kang and GM Adriano in their Meet-the-Player-Session revealed some future patched for the Dragon Nest SEA. There will be game balancing , UI improvements and the most awaited update was the release of the sixth class Kali, including its specialization, the Screamer and Dancer. All these updates will be further announced soon on their website.
Another update was the unveiling of their newly acquired game Avatar Star. Avatar Star is a third-person multi-player online shooting game developed by Pearl Digital. It is more like Valve’s Counter Strike game but focuses more on the “avatar” customization. A PvP match between Addison Kang and GM Adriano was held also.
IN THE END.
Cherry Convention 2013 was a huge success considering it was their first actual game event in the Philippines and I was not surprised because most of Dragon Nest Southeast Asia population are Filipinos. There had been reports of long queue of attendees waiting just before the event started.
During the duration of my stay, people can freely roam around inside the venue without the fear of being getting bump with other people except of course during Alodia’s Birthday Bash.
The Php 250 was a little bit expensive if you consider that they only rented two halls for the event and only few activities was held on stage but seeing how the event was managed smoothly by the organizers, it would be worth a prize.
And besides aside from the freebies received from the entrance, there were also a lot of “flying” DN plushies being given away at the stage area. Lucky are those who have one.
So, will there be a Cherry Con 2014? Filipino fans will definitely be waiting for that and I will be waiting also.
