Here are the topics discussed during the press conference held last May 25 at the Newport Mall, Resorts World Manila.
The panel was consist of Toycon 2013 organizers Vic Yap and Cholo Mallillin, Hero TV Channel Head Jojo Estacio, country head of Pacific Licensing and Warner Bros Consumer Products Veronica Cabalina and Special Events & Promotions Manager RW Manila Francis Bonnevie.
LARGEST TOY GALLERY
The organizers have announced that they will setup the largest toy gallery consisting 40 glass cabinets and it will feature some Filipino-made customized figures.
Toycon 2013 will highlight upcoming Warner Bros’ films Man of Steel and Pacific Rim this year. As a sponsor for this year’s event, Veronica Cabalina of Pacific Licensing said that Warner Bros will be decorating the Megatrade Hall entrance with design elements from the Man of Steel movie.
They will also have a booth where attendees can enjoy various games and activities, take pictures of Man of Steel costumes and buy Marvel/DC Comics licensed merchandise.
Superman cosplayer Gerard Sison noted that Filipinos are very fortunately because the Philippines is getting an earlier screening date of the Man of Steel movie than the rest of the world.
HERO FACE OFF at TOYCON
According to Hero TV’s new Channel Head Jojo Estacio, she is very excited with the team up of the biggest pop culture event in the country and Hero Face Off 2013.
Toycon’s Vic Yap replied with “Simply Great.” Yap also revealed that the idea of Toycon holding World Cosplay Summit started as a joke. The organizers approached WCS last year in a bid to hold the Philippine Qualifier in the event but failed.
RESORT WORLD MANILA as Venue of Launch Event
Francis Bonnevie of Resorts World Manila said that they are so proud of holding Toycon Launch Event as part of their 2013 Epic Summer Weekend.
Another topic raised during the Q&A is the increase of the ticket prices from P100 to P120 for this year’s Toycon. Mallilin answered that they are happy to say that until now Toycon has the cheapest entrance fee of all the events and they want to keep it that way.
Mallilin further explained that it does not mean the prices of tickets will increase every year. This is first time in six years that Toycon raised its ticket prices.
Despite averaging 25,000 people attending Toycon every year, the organizers at this time, are not considering moving it but they are open of holding off-shoot activities or events outside the main venue.
TOYCON ONLINE PARTNERS
Mallilin explained that the Toycon Online Partner program is a way where fans can be part of organizing Toycon event. The program is open to all online sites, Facebook groups and fan pages, group blogs, and forums and interested parties can register online.
12 YEARS OF TOYCON
The organizers were asked why Toycon has lasted 12 years despite many conventions have sprouted and Yap responded, “Toycon has a heart…They forgot that TOYCON is not the organizers but the collectors.” “It’s all about the fans… A convention with a heart for the fans,” Mallilin seconded.
Participation of the GAMING COMMUNITY
The organizers were trying very hard to have the gaming community with TOYCON. They have invited all the gaming groups but they are hesitant to join despite the promised crowd the event can offer. Some gaming groups are even encouraging the TOYCON organizers to create a separate event for the gamers.
Cherry Credits, the publisher of Dragon Nest in Southeast Asia will also have a booth at the event. TOYCON is also partnering with 99.5 PlayFM for a gaming booth.
