“Koe No Katachi” anime film gets Philippine release

Local film distributor Pioneer Film announced last Friday that anime film “Koe No Katachi” (A Silent Voice) will be shown in the Philippines. The film’s play date has not yet been announced.

The film is based on Yoshitoki Oima’s manga of the same name. Anime News Network describes the film’s story:

A deaf elementary school girl, Shoko Nishimiya, upon transferring, meets a boy named Shoya Ishida in her new class. Shoya, who is not deaf, leads the class in bullying Shoko, because she is deaf. As the bullying continues, the class starts to bully Shoya for bullying Shoko. After graduating from elementary school, Shoko and Shoya do not speak to each other… until later, when Shoya, tormented over his past, decides he must see Shoko once more. Shoya wants to make amends for what he did in elementary school and be Shoko’s friend.

The film earned  JPY2.2 billion as of December 2016 and was listed 19th in the top 20 highest-grossing film in Japan for 2016 . The film also won grand prize for “Anime of the Year” (Film Category) in the Tokyo Anime Awards Festival this year and “Excellent Animation of the Year” in 40th Japan Academy Prize.

Koe No Katachi was released in Japan on September 17, 2016.
