UPDATE 9:05 PM. A massive fire engulfed the three-story building of Japanese anime studio Kyoto Animation on Thursday morning.
The fire started at around 10:30 A.M. by an unidentified man who was found spraying liquid around the area, NHK World reported. The man, who is in his 40s, has been taken into police custody.
According to local fire officials, 33 three persons have died and 36 have been injured in the incident. Several persons are still missing.
Thirty fire trucks have been sent to the scene to put out the blaze. The fire was put out after 5 hours.
Kyoto Animation is known for producing popular anime series such as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Free!, K-On!, Tamako Market, Beyond the Boundary and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid.
