Netflix original anime series Trese will be released to the streaming platform on June 11.
Trese was among the many upcoming shows and films that were showcased in a recent video entitled “New on Netflix | June 2021” that was posted on the official Netflix Philippines Youtube channel on April 20, 2021.
The Netflix adaptation was first announced in November 2018 and it will be directed by the Filipino-American Jay Oliva who is known for his works in the Justice League and Batman series.
Fans originally expected that the series would be launched in 2020, as stated in the title screen posted in Netflix’s Coming Soon page. It was during the Netflix Anime Festival held last October 2020 when the streaming giant finally confirmed that the series will be launched in 2021 along with two teaser images in their official Facebook account.
Trese is based on the Philippine graphic novel created by Budjette Tan and KaJo Baldisimo. Set in a Manila where the mythical creatures of Philippine folklore live in hiding amongst humans, Alexandra Trese finds herself going head to head with a criminal underworld composed of malevolent supernatural beings.
The graphic novel was originally published in ashcan format under Alamat Comics. It was later compiled into a graphic novel and published by Visprint, Inc. until the company’s closure in 2020. The graphic novel now has seven books from the original storyline and is currently published locally under Avenida Books.
Alexandra Trese will be voiced by Liza Soberano in Filipino and by Shay Mitchell in English.
